Missions of Mercy International is a group of doctors and nurses from Florida and other areas of the US. For the past 12 years they have donated their time and skills to help the people of El Salvador. Each year they come to Jucuapa and work out of the local health clinic as well as a hospital in the neighboring town. People travel from all over El Salvador to take advantage of their services. They performed eye surgery for cataracts; distributed eye glasses; removed tumors and cysts; handed out vitamins, tylenol and other medicines; and also distributed clothes, toys, and other supplies to the Salvadorans.

The doctors came down twice while I was living in Jucuapa. Both times I had the opportunity to work closely with them. I rounded up the translators for the doctors, organized the patients in the waiting room, assisted in some of the surgeries, and also translated when needed. Several of my fellow Peace Corps Volunteers came to Jucuapa to assist during the time the doctors were there. I greatly enjoyed working with this group and I hope I have the opportunity to work with them again. GRACIAS!

Friends of El Salvador

The Friends of El Salvador is a group of gringos that began coming to El Salvador after the earthquakes of 2001. They have returned each year to build permanent houses for families in Jucuapa, Usulutan; Morazan; and La Union. This year they decided that in the future they are going to focus their efforts on Morazan. They are a great group of guys with great hearts for this country and it has been my pleasure to be a part of their mission and their work.
